BIOGRAPHY
Mr. Spilger has over 30 years experience as a real estate attorney, real estate broker, and real estate trainer.
From 1998 to 2004, Mr. Spilger served as general counsel for eleven Century 21 offices and One Source Realty. Mr. Spilger handled all litigation matters including trials, mediations, arbitrations, CalBRE hearings, and a variety of other legal matters. Based on his track record, CNA Insurance (Errors & Omissions carrier) approved him as one of their panel attorneys. In 2004, he moved on to private practice specializing in real estate issues related to Owners, Investors, Borrowers, Sellers, Buyers, Mortgage Lenders, as well as Real Estate Agents.
Mr. Spilger earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics from San Diego Sate in 1973 and received his Juris Doctor from University of San Diego in 1976. Mr. Spilger is a member of the Real Property Section of both the California Sate Bar Association and San Diego County Bar Association. He has served three times as the Chairperson of the Attorney/Realtor Section of the San Diego County Bar. Mr. Spilger also has extensive and accredited training as a mediator.
In 2009, Mr. Spilger was honored as one of several semi-finalists for Real Estate Attorney of the year as selcted by teh fellow members of the San Diego Bar Association.
Mr. Spilger serves on the Board of Directors of the San Diego Association of Realtors, and has served as chairman of its By-laws Committee, chairman of its Risk Management Committee, and twice chairman of the Real Estate Mediation Center. In 2006, Mr. Spilger was appointed as a Director of the California Association of Realtors. The California Association of Realtors has designated him a Certified Trainer for Professional Standards. He has also testified as an expert witness on real estate issues in several Superior Court cases.
Mr. Spilger is the author of seven separate educational courses approved by the California Department of Real Estate to meet continuing education requirements for real estate licensees. Mr. Spilger was recently featured on KOGO radio and KCBQ radio as a guest speaker to discuss legal issues related to short sales and foreclosures.
